Monguelfo and its surrounding attractions
Monguelfo is situated at an altitude of about 1100 m in the Pustertal. This is where the Gsieser river flows into the Rienz. The medieval castle of Monguelfo is situated on a rock spur at the entrance to the northern Gsieser Tal. The castle is one of the most significant sights in Hochpustertal, similar to the world-famous Pragser Wildsee and the Dreizinnen in Sexten.
Monguelfo is embedded in a natural landscape with the imposing peaks of the Dolomites rising above it. These are also visible from the neighbouring municipalities of Niederdorf, Toblach, Innichen, and Sexten. This picturesque view delights nature lovers at any time of the year. You can reach the nearby ski resorts (Haunold, Helm, and 3 Zinnen Dolomites) from all these places in a few minutes or just enjoy the tranquillity of the village.
